IL Senate OKs Minimum Wage Hike

The IL Senate passed a $15 hour minimum wage bill (SB 1) today over opposition of the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association and a broad coalition of business community partners. This is an 82 percent increase in the minimum wage. The current minimum wage in IL is $8.25.

The bill sets the following schedule for the hike.

January 1, 2020 $ 9.25
July 1, 2020 $10.00
January 1, 2021 $11.00
January 1, 2022 $12.00
January 1, 2023 $13.00
January 1, 2024 $14.00
January 1, 2025 $15.00

SB 1 now moves to the House of Representatives where it expected to pass. A vote will likely occur next week.
