Farm Bill Conference Set To Begin Sept. 5

The first farm bill conference committee meeting has been set for Sept. 5. The conferees from the House and Senate will try to iron out differences between their two bills in the panel.

MWFPA state representatives included Rodney Davis (R-IL), John Shimkus (R-IL), and Sean Duffy (R-WI).  Minnesota is represented on the panel by two Democratic House members, Rep. Collin Peterson, who serves as the ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee, and Rep. Tim Walz, a member of the ag committee who recently won the primary to be the Democratic candidate for governor of Minnesota.
MWFPA is working with the American Fruit & Vegetable Processor & Grower Coalition to ensure that its “all forms” fruit and vegetable language is a part of the final bill.  The current farm bill expires Sept. 30.
